South Petherton, with the Seavingtons

and the Lambrooks

St James, East Lambrook

This church serves the three villages of East Lambrook, West Lambrook and Mid Lambrook, a couple of miles north of South Petherton. It is tucked away down a narrow lane and is regarded as a hidden gem.

It is a modest building with a 13th century chancel arch. The pulpit is Jacobean and the church has box pews. A west gallery is accessed by an outside staircase visible in one of the photographs.

Services are held here on Sundays: on the first and third Sundays of each month Evensong followed by Holy Communion is at 6pm, on the second Sunday Matins is at 11.30am, on the fourth Sunday Holy Communion is at 11.30am. When there is a fifth Sunday a United Benefice service takes place at South Petherton at 9.30am.

Apart from being a base from which to explore the Somerset Levels, East Lambrook is also well known for East Lambrook Manor - whose garden became famous thanks to the work of the late Margery Fish.
